First Church Invercargill

The current church was designed in the Italo-Byzantine style by local architect John Bair and built between 1912 and 1915 from local red bricks. The architecture is unique in New Zealand.
1856 Alexander Bethune conducts the first Presbyterian service in Invercargill.
1860 Thomas Burns conducts the first communion.
1860 29 June Andrew Hamilton Stobo inducted.
1863 Church opened.
1891 Organists appointed.
1900 Individual communion cups used.
1912 August Original Church closed.
1912 November Stobo Hall used for worship.
1915 10 February New Church opened.
1921 October Envelope system introduced.
1921 December War Memorial Window unveiled.
1939 Hammond Organ paid off.
1959 Sermon on the Mount Window dedicated.
1945 and 1959 General Assembly at First Church.
1965 Presbyterian Support Office opened.
1983 Electronic Carillon Bells dedicated.
