Arrived NZ as Probationer in June 1864.
Moderator of the Presbyterian Church General Assembly 1903
From the foundation of the Hall in 1874 he served as a member of the staff, first as tutor in Biblical Criticism and Sacred Languages, later as Professor of Hebrew and Church History.
