Attended Victoria University, Wellington and while in Wellington met another Sunday School Teacher in St Giles Church, Joan Young, who later became his wife in a real team ministry. Entered Theological Hall Dunedin; one summer he worked on Haast Pass Rd, and lived in Davis Flat Camp of two hundred men. He was Rover Scout leader for twenty years, receiving Medal of Merit and Bar from the scouting Association. Rod and Joan married in 1940 and went to Forest Hill. His farming background was useful, and when many farms were short of labour he willingly helped at harvest or shearing. He was an active member of Tramping Club and led many search and rescue parties. Once he conducted a memorial Service on Mt Herbert, dedicating a cross in memory of trampers who served and died in War.
He served as Committee member on the PSSA for twelve years in Wellington and seventeen years in Dunedin.
Moderator of the Synod of Otago and Southland; member of The Synod Finance Committee
for twenty-five years. Served on Committees of many Associations. Hospitality with a sympathetic ear, was extended to all. (from Obit.) Last edited by: Andrew Smith
