Studied at Bible Training Institute Auckland 1954–1955, Bachelor of Arts degree in history at Otago University.
Then concluded he needed academic study to fit himself for the Mission field.

Licensed by Mataura Presbytery 28 November 1961
Appointed “Own Worker” of the Bible Class Movement
To All Saints College Sydney for six month training course, 19 January 1962
Arrived Port Moresby Papua New Guinea 25 July 1962
Salomo District Ministry 1962 — had extended leave after a period of ill-health in November 1964
Returned to New Zealand to recuperate 16 December 1964.
Returned to Papua New Guinea 3 September 1965
Salomo 1969 — Appointed Regional Secretary and Assistant to the Bishop of Salomo to support and brief him in all his activities relating to the Salomo Region, as well as overseeing the secretarial work of the Diocese.
