Hinds Co-operating Parish

The Hinds Co-operating Parish was formed as a 50/50 Anglican/Presbyterian Parish about 30 years before 2014, starting with a full-time minister, later served by a local team ministry with a resource minister for 20% of the time. Oversight alternates between the Anglican and Presbyterian Churches. It is the only church in the Hinds district.

The Parish has smaller churches at Longbeach, Ealing, Windermere, Lowcliffe and Coldstream. These smaller churches or chapels are used on special occasions, sometimes once or twice a year. The cost of maintenance of all of them is met, either by the estates on which they are located or by specific trust funds established for the purpose. Accordingly the parish is called on to maintain only the St Luke's property in Hinds.

The Hinds Church and Hall are the property of the Diocese of Christchurch and the Presbyterian Church has no financial interest in the property (2014).

The Pipe Organ at St Lukes Hinds was commissioned in September 1920 as a memorial to the local soldiers who did not return home from World War 1. Last edited by: Andrew Smith
