John Knox Rangiora

In 1860, Kaiapoi had established the first Presbyterian church in the region which covered both Kaiapoi and Rangiora. In 1863, called Rev W. Kirton as minister to both parishes who ministered until his death in 1871. Rev W McGregor was called to fill the vacancy for both parishes in early 1872.

The decision to build a church in Rangiora was made and John Knox Church was opened and dedicated on the 15th of September 1872 and in 1880 John Knox Church established themselves as a separate charge.

John Knox Church had a number of students appointed by the Christchurch Presbytery to minister including Rev P R Munro and Rev J A Dawson. In November 2nd, 1885 John Knox Church ordained and inducted Rev James MacKellar as their first Minister.
