"They came with their parents John Rowan and Agnes Hardie from Selkirk, Scotland on the sailing ship Nelson arriving at Port Chalmers on 31 Dec 1874 and went to work at the Mosgiel Woolen Mills. When they arrived, John was 12, William was 18 and was a Warper, Alexander was 9, Betsy was 21 and worked as a Weaver, Jeannie was 27 a seamstress (blind from 3), and Annie was 25."
